Milk for the family
After giving birth, a healthy mother goat produces milk for several months.
Some of this milk is needed by her kids. The remaining milk can often be used by the family.
Once the kids are old enough and no longer depend on their mother’s milk, she can continue producing milk for several months as long as she is milked regularly.
It can be consumed fresh or made into yoghurt or cheese, depending on local traditions.
With good care, one healthy goat can provide milk, healthy offspring and new opportunities for many years.
